US Teddies and Rexes

Our next type of piggie coats, will actually be two types of hair that are very similar. I was lucky enough to own both of this type, so I can show you.
I had and have both Rexes and US Teddies, at first hand it seems there is not a big difference between the two types, but there are some distinct differences.
Rexes have a curly belly, their whiskers are not straight but curly and their fur is usually a lot more coarse then that of a US teddy.
US teddies in comparison have no curly hair on their bellies, their whiskers are straight and their fur is really soft.
Both types have hair that stands out and is slightly curly, if it would grow longer (as is the case with Tessels) they would have nice curls. Both seem to have pretty dense coats, and in my experience they are more prone to having dry skin and fur problems like a fungal infection.
Usually both can get pretty big compared to piggies with other hair types, our current US Teddy Roos for example is at least 2 cm longer then the rest and in general she is just big (without seeming fat). Of course there are always exceptions our Woopy (first pigture below) was always very petite and never weighed at lot more than 1 kilo.
Woopy, a Rex piggy
Daisy, a US Teddy
Woopy's nose,
here you can see her slightly curled whiskers
Chico, in this pigture you can see fairly well that his whiskers
are straight, which makes him a US teddy
Lotje, our first Rex sow, she had the cutest curly belly
I will find a pigture of our US teddies Lily and Roos, I haven't been able to either upload a pigture of them (at the moment) or I just can't find a pigture that does them justice. I will post them soon, when I do manage to upload and find proper pigtures!

Btw, if you still have smooth-haired piggies to enter, go ahead and send them in!
Also if you want to suggest another type, do so in the comments.

Piggy Snap - Smooth Coated Piggies

This is Agent Mouse ( aka Angelina Piggyfriend ) calling all smooth coated piggies out there reading this.

We need more of you to send us your pigtures for our Piggy Snap game. We are collecting smooth coated piggy pigtures at the moment but for the rest of you your time will come. We need lots of pigtures for a jolly card game, which we hope to make and sell to raise funds for a piggy shelter just like we have done in previous years with our calendar.

It is ever so easy. On this page you will find the word Contribute ( in red ) at the top under the photo of our esteemed leader, Agent F.

Click on the word and an email page will appear. All you have to do is tell us who you are and attach your pigture. Then click send and "hey presto" your pigture will appear on our blog.........just like mine.

We'd love to hear from you. Here I am.

And here are my friends, Lotte and Lola, who are also smooth coated piggies.

Come on, don't be shy!

" Should you be doing a report?" asks Susie." You have never been given an Agent name. I have a good one for you - Agent Floormop! "

"That's fine by me, " replies Tyrion, " that's a good name! I hope that Agent Ghost had rain too so that he and the Piggypals can mow their lawn again."

Piggy Snap : Smooth Coated Piggies

"Hey you two", says Dorian. "Aunty Mieke is asking for pigtures of smooth coated piggies for the blog. " I was in the original Piggy Snap. Can you sit still for a photoshoot?"

" I can," says Cosmo, " OK, it took a bit of effort on the part of Slave and her son but look at my photo. If we are going to be Agents Dangermice when we grow up, we have got to learn to sit still for passport photos."

" Well that was a bit of a failure, Casper," says Cosmo." You can't have your pigture taken if you disappear up the back of the sofa but I suppose that this one of you in our pen will have to do. What do you think, Dorian?"

" I think that I would like to send in my pigture too," says Dorian. " I am a smooth coated piggy after all. Well done little Dangermice. I didn't always sit still when I was little."

Dorian is Agent Silver Streak ( retired ) but always willing to help out in an emergency.

Piggie snap: Smooth-haired piggies

Hi all,

We would like to revive an old topic here on the blog: Piggie snap.
The goal is to collect as much pigtures of gorgeous piggies all over the world, so they can be shown off here. And there is also an idea to do something with all this pigtures which I (Mieke) will tell you about later, when I think this is feasible... ;)

So I would like to start of with smooth-haired piggies, at the moment I own two beautiful smooth-haired piggies, and I have owned some more in the past.
So here I will be sharing my all my smoothhaired piggies.

We would love to meet your smooth-haired piggies as well, you can share both your current and late piggies, and if you are allowed to share pigtures of piggies owned by friends or family, go ahead! We would love to hear what their names are as well.

You can send in pigtures, read how to do that directly by clicking on the contribute tab above or send an email with the pigtures attached to the adress mentioned there (one will post it to the blog directly first all pigtures then the text from your email, the other will send them to M so she can put the in the right order if wanted).

The Perils of being an Agent

There are occasions when an Agent may need to look suave and sophisticated in order to carry out infiltration work. The downside to this is that it may be necessary to have a BATH! ( eeek!).

Above is Agent Plantagenet suffering in the line of duty ( and adding a plug for our favourite shampoo ).

Here he is again, getting dry and ready to go out on another dangerous mission.

We have two new Piggyfriends!

All the Piggyfriend Agents plus those who are not would like to introduce our newest arrivals. Slave has told us how much trouble she has had sharing this photo with our friends on the GPDD so we thought that we would help her out by posting their pigture here.

These little fellows came to us from Palace Piggies, whom you may remember being the recipient of the profits from our Undercover Piggies calendar a couple of years ago.

They are called Cosmo and Casper and we think that Cosmo is on the left. They were very nervous when they arrived but they are learning to get excited when the veggies arrive so we
hope that they will grow up to be agents when they are bigger.

It is hard work being an Agent

Agent Plantagenet has a well earned nap after searching high and low for reports.

It is just as well that he has his trusted right paw pig, Rafferty, to keep a wary lookout whilst he recovers.

Application to become an Agent

I would like to apply to be an Undercover Agent please. My real name is Salsa but I think Agent Usain Bolt would be appropriate due to my amazingly fast running speed. I could make very quick getaways. There is also another reason why I might be a useful Undercover Agent. I have a body double in my herd! Caramac is exactly the same colour, with the same shaped face and same shaped ears. The only difference is our size. I should have reached my adult weight by now but with all this running around I burn off too many calories! I am working on this. More veggies please...

Agent Confetti

I, Agent Confetti, have just returned from my first mission, which took me to <edited>.  I brought back this treat for my mom and dad.

Introducing Agent

Maybe he already was agent weight when he came to us, at least he has been in all the recent (back to august 2014) records slave could find about his weight, eitherway his Agent introduction is way overdue!

Slaves had a bit of trouble on deciding on a (nice) Agent name for our Berke. He can be a bit of a scaredy pants, but they did not want to give him that Agent name, so they settle for this one...

Introducing Agent Brave Sir Robin, this video says it all we think...

We have a new Agent

We have had an applicant for the post of Undercover Agent. Here he is. His name is Eddie and, as you can see, he is a very resourceful piggy, employing a whole cosy for a pillow.

We think that he will be an excellent addition to our band of Agents.

He has chosen the name of Agent Confetti as he likes to wave an entire piece of shredded newspaper when requesting food. As paper shredders ourselves, we had no hesitation in accepting his application.

Welcome Agent Confetti. We look forward to receiving reports from you very soon.

Friday video: Guinea pigs in their new outdoor enclosure

Well, those guinea pigs we saw last week are really spoiled! Turns out the also have a superb outdoor enclosure. In this video they get to go in it the first time...

A scary day at Piggyfriends.

" There is a lot of noise going on outside,"
says Niamh Piggyfriend. " What can it be?
" I think that this is a job for an Undercover Agent," says Roisin. " You just hide in that box and I will ask Susie."

" Hey, Susie! Can you stop eating for a moment and go and
find out what is happening outside? "
"OK," replies Susie, " but do you realise that by chewing up
our cardboard boxes, you are making our homes
look messy for the photos?"

Morphing into Agent Gemini, Susie leaps from her pen
and climbs up to look out of the window.
" There is a terrible storm raging outside and the noise
is the rain on the roof. Don't forget that our new room has a glass roof."
" Oh dear," cries Susie, " Our flag has been damaged!
The end of it has been torn away. Slave will have to buy a new one!"

May Queen at last!

Although our hedge is slow to produce its mayflowers, Slave's husband found some when he was out and picked them for me.

Wasn't that kind?

Slave said that it didn't matter if I ate some leaves. She and her friends used to eat them when they were little and called it the "bread and cheese tree". She had a taste of mine and didn't think that they tasted much of bread and cheese but maybe taste buds change as one grows older. I don't know what bread and cheese tastes like anyway.

Love to you all from Petunia aka Agent Flower.

Not quite a May Queen

When Slave read my post the other day, she was upset at my disappointment at not being able to be the May Queen on 1st. May. She takes special care of the Piggyfriend Pensioners and we all get an extra cucumber allowance. At 6 years and 9 months, I am the oldest piggy here.

There are still no blossoms on our hawthorn hedge, although there are lots of tiny buds and her friend had no blossom either. Slave says that this has been a strange Spring with some plants flowering very early and some late.

She says that, in France, people give each other bunches of Lily of the Valley on May 1st but the ones in the garden are not in flower yet either and they would have been dangerous to have in my pigture as they are toxic.

So she picked this big bunch of forget me nots from the garden and took this pigture. I was really pleased and tried to eat the flowers. Slave says that they are harmless but not really piggy food so I had some dandelions when I went back to my pen.

A belated Happy May Day from Petunia Piggyfriend.

No Mayflowers, no Friday video, what is the world coming to?

Agent Flower reporting.

Every year, our Slave picks one of us girls to be May Queen and she gathers mayflowers from the garden and makes a pretty pigture.

Spring was cold and late this year and, although she has searched diligently for the appropriate blossom, she has been unable to find any.

I was going to be May Queen this year and I am so disappointed. Here is our pigture from last year, when, as you can see, Florence was surrounded by mayflowers. This is not fair. ...grumble...grumble.

We do not have a Friday video today but we thought that baby Tijger's video of her learning tricks was so good that it deserves a second look. Slave has watched it over and over and we hope it is not giving her ideas. None of us are young enough to learn tricks.

Here is the link. Do watch it again.

http://undercoverguineapigs.blogspot.nl/2015/04/non-friday-videos-tijger-learned-to-spin.html

Slave is going to collect newspapers tomorrow from a kind lady who saves them for our pens. She has hawthorn in her garden ( mayflowers are the blossom from this tree ) and maybe she has some for me. Paws crossed.

Please welcome the piggy Dmitri Stormlord

Please welcome the piggy Dmitri Stormlord! He is very small, only a couple of weeks old, if that. He is an Abyssinian, all black except for one golden tuft on his left side.

He was adopted from the Michigan Humane Society on Saturday. He was taken from a hoarder's house and had lice, but is doing much better now. He was hiding for much of Saturday and Sunday (he really likes his hay hut), but late on Sunday he came out to munch on some alfalfa. He is very brave! We are going to wait a week or two before introducing him to Apollo.

We have learned he likes carrots (his favorite), lettuce, and cucumber. We're very happy to bring this new piggy into our home!

-Jocelyn, Apollo, and Gruden von Squeakycheeks, and Dmitri Stormlord

Non-friday video(s): Tijger learned to spin!

It's a bit early for a friday video, but I really wanted to share this with you.
Our little Tijger was taught a trick by her dad E!
Some of you may know this as 'Do a circle', but the word 'Spin' is a lot shorter, we hoped she would just recognize this one word then do the trick..
At the moment she will start spinning when she sees you coming with the veggies, WOL. Now dad is trying to teach her 'Up', which means she stands on her hind legs. When he says either Up or Spin she will do both a spin and stand on her hindlegs, so she has not really mastered the difference yet. But either way we think this is a smart solution of her. I made no videos of the Up yet, but here are two more spin videos... I'm also trying to teach Peaches to do the spin now.
