This week Animal Planet's 101 on Guinea Pigs
Allthough we like this video for it's high quality and cute actors, we'd like to mention that we don't agree with the advice to spay or neuter the pig. We only recommend that when you intend to house a male with a female(s) in one cage. And even then, we'd only recommend neutering the male, since operating on him is far less invasive compared to a female. Guinea pigs aren't like cats and dogs who can escape out of the house and meet a nice stray companion for the night.
So.. with that all said, have a nice Wheekend!!!
p.s. If there are other things that they didn't get quite right or you would like to elaborate on. Please write them down below in the comment section (because we do think are some other little things..).
We love the stars of this video but, although the adult gave instructions on how to handle piggies, we did not think much of the way the extras were picking them up.
ReplyDeleteWe also did not like the emphasis on neutering. J is right about us not going out at night to meet strangers ( except virtually ). Slave never has any of us neutered. If a lone boar comes here, it will not be long before another homeless boar comes knocking on our door and they can be friends without the need for dangerous operations. Some of us boars have come here already neutered so they can live with sows but Slave believes that operations are too risky for anything other than serious illnesses like tumours or stones in boars.
We would prefer that potential slaves were educated not to put boars and sows together and to learn that two boars can be just as good friends as two sows and also make lovely pets. There are too many boars in shelters that could have a good home but people always want the sows instead.
We did not like the ramp in the piggy cage and would have liked to see a side to it so that the piggies did not fall off. The top shelf of their house could have had a little parapet to keep them safe.
We were scared by the reference to space flight and to the South American cuisine.
Right. We will all get off the collective soapbox now and let other piggy readers comment.
P.S. We are not fat! We are pig shaped. Nothing worse than a half starved pig. Slave says that a little extra cushion helps us if we are ill.
ReplyDeleteHe Big Red,
ReplyDeleteWe agree!! We're not fat! In fact, we have serious doubts about a vet's capabilities when he says a pig is too fat. Dogs and cats get too fat, we just get cuter ;-)
