Calendar piggies of the Month: Kimba and Teddy

Some of you (probably the ones who read the GPDD) will know that this months Piggies' of the Month owner is really busy trying to keep her piggie Kimba alive. As we don't want to disturb her too much, I asked her permission to tell you a bit about what I know of the piggies of the month Teddy and Kimba, who is having health problems.
Teddy
"I did have a piggy called Teddy, who died in 2005 from a twisted gut, on Boxing Day, and I was away for Christmas and my mother had to rush him to emergency, etc. The lady who is the Australian Sales representative for Oxbow Products knows me, from way back when I had Teddy, and she's seen Teddy's photo and has never forgotten him, or me. Teddy was a pure breed Coronet, and I have some of the most stunning photos of a piggy I've ever seen.

I would like to boast to my GPDD forever friends over my gorgeous boy. I loved him so much, I had him cremated, and he is with me and my best friend dog called Tess, who I had for 15 years. Tess was also cremated, and strange as it might seem, having their ashes with me gives me some comfort. When I die, Teddy and Tess will be joining me in the casket so we all cross the Rainbow Bridge together and meet with all my other piggies at the other side."
Kimba
"I am enclosing a photo of Kimba, and it's a very special photo because it shows him as he is getting over his ill health and just starting to eat again. As he is over 5 years old now, I would love to honour him so much for his love, his determination not to give in, for his cuddles, and for dealing with his grief at losing Snowdrop and transferring all his love and cuddles to me, his mummy"

Kimba developed dental problems at the beginning of this May month, despite visits to the vet no good cure has been found for him yet. Almost a month later Kimba is still with Julie (as far as I know), she is doing her very best to keep him alive. I hope you will all join in sending healing wheeks to Kimba and all our support to Julie!
"I’m still struggling to keep Kimba with me. He is the most adorable, loving, cheeky, determined, adventuresome, snuggly, cuddly, adorable, joyous piggy I’ve known. He loves me to bits, I love him to bits, so between us there is a huge lot of love.

I’ve been fighting God for Kimba’s life now for 27 days, and I’m starting to feel that God is going to win this one. I’m dead on my feet and have no brain anymore, and certainly sleep is very very elusive to me. I had a one-track mind, it’s all Kimba, Kimba, Kimba, yet I forget to check on Sooty & Treacle at times."

Keep up the good work, Julie and Kimba!

Taking pictures

I guess all of you have tried to take pigtures of their piggies doing cute things... (Or am I the only crazy lady who does that?!?)
As most of you know Bérke is a new addition to our herd. He is about Roos her age and they seem to get along pretty well. They both love to do zoomies around the cage when new fresh hay is on the way. And Roos loves climbing on things, and I think she taught Bérke how to do this.

So there I was looking at the cage and I saw that Bérke was on the doll bed they have for the first time (to my knowledge). So obviously I wanted to take a pigture of him up there. This is what I got...
... an empty bed, Bérke had just jumped of the bed
It's too bad there is not a little leg still visible of him scurrying out of view. But later that evening, when it was getting darking, so unfortunately the quality is not that good, I found Bérke on the bed again...

ah, he likes to munch the hay up there
And I even got a pigture of him on the bed through the side, which is quite exceptional, as usually he runs away when I try to take pigtures of him. He can be scared quite easily and is also a master of making noise! At first we thought it was the girls showing their discomfort to Bérke chasing them all the time. But no, guess again, it is Bérke making all that noise.

Posing like a pro...
Do your pigs like to pose or do they run from the camera as well?

Friday Video: the Boy Bits

After our informative series of video's about hair styling, we've selected a few video's about keeping your bottoms clean.

short video

Long video

We cannot get Swarfega in the Netherlands. There probably is something similar on the market, but for us the dishwashing soap works well enough. We also really like the idea of distracting us with veggies (short video). Other than that, our procedure is more similar to the long video. So there you have it ;-)

If you like the Gorgeous Guinea Products, you can visit their site here: www.gorgeousguineas.com

We also found a video on anal sack cleaning for boars

So there you have it.

Have a nice Wheekend!

*evil grin* Sorry, boys. We do apologize ;-)

Friday Video: Trimming Long Haired Guinea Pigs

There are several ways to cut a long haired guinea pigs' hair. So we've selected several video's that use different techniques.

Trimming with scissors

Trimming with scissors and a comb

Electric clippers

Trimming a guinea pig is not easy. As you can see, there are several ways to do it and we selected these video's because they all had parts that we liked. Even the squirmy pig in video 2, because that's what happens sometimes, especially with some pigs (we are not naming anyone, but you know who you are!)

Our hair stylist told us that she had to use different techniques for every pig that she styled. Jan the Boar really enjoyed his electric clippers. To him, it was just a slightly noisy massage. With Sjeuf, the stylist had to hold her fingers between his skin and the scissors (kinda like video 2, but without the comb) to fool him into being petted instead of getting a haircut (boy was he surprised). Coco is the favorite pig when it comes to hair styling; once she has a big pile of veggies, the hair stylist can do whatever she pleases, just as long as she ends up looking fashionable.
