An Agent Zeppelin Mystery

Agent Zeppelin is always improving his craft. He enjoys outsmarting the humans (huh.. like it's hard) and his cagemates by confusing them. Is he facing the food bowl or the hay rack? Which station should be guarded from the jaws of this ambitious LAPS pig?

See if you can find out. Get guessing!

Food bowl or hay ball?
Cardboard box or camera?

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Top of the morning readers!

The Piggyfriends want to wish everyone a Happy St. Patrick's Day and I have been chosen as their representative.

Slave says that every pig here can be a secret agent. How exciting is that! Beats living in a cardboard box anyday.

She gave me an Irish name when I came here so I have chosen to be called Agent Shamrock. I live with my best friend Domino, who has shared my life through the hungry cardboard box years and the outdoor living and is now safely indoors with me here at Piggyfriends, where veggies are plentiful and there are pens of beautiful sows nearby.

We spent time recovering at our Rodentologists before moving here and our favourite food there was carrot but Slave forages for yummy leaves for us and we currently are enamoured of dandelion leaves.

Slave says that unless, like her, you are into Irish mythology or garden design, you are unlikely to guess my real name. If you read the GPDD, you might have seen me and my friend collecting trash aboard the Black Pearl in the current virtual story. The only clue that I can suggest is to think of an Irish name beginning with  D and don't worry about the spelling.

Have a great day. Glasses of carrot wine all round. Slonshal.

We had a bath

We shouldn't have said that we'd never had a bath..

Miss Bo
Agent Chanel
Sjeuf
For those of you who are still wondering how J tells Coco and Sjeuf apart, here are some hints:
  • Coco is actually white, with only two lilac spots around her eyes
  • Sjeuf is lilac all over
  • Coco is a coronet. This means that she has a crest on her head and long hair everywhere else. Or as she likes to say; I wear a crown, since I am a queen ;-)
  • Sjeuf is a sheltie, no crests
  • And most of all, Coco is a girl and Sjeuf is a boy!! When in doubt (as if..) check underneath ;-)

The Glynneath Guinea Pig Rescue

The Glynneath Guinea Pig Rescue

The rescue was set up in '03. Started because I felt guilty sitting on my backside watching animal rescue programmes feeling sorry for the animals and when I had the knowledge and experience to do something about it! So I got off the sofa and started organising. Had a shed built, constructed cages and runs, read and learnt as much as possible and let local rescues and vets know about me. The first guinea pigs arrived very soon and since then the rescue has grown every year. I now rescue over 150 guinea pigs a year, this year could be my busiest as I have already taken in 45 in the first 6 weeks of the year, with many on the waiting list for space.

Uncle JohnnyPig

JohnnyPig has poor dental health and requires trimming every month so is a lifelong resident at the rescue. He has earned his place at the rescue by becoming the resident Uncle Pig to all the baby boys that have to leave their mothers at 3 weeks old so no accidental pregnancies occur. He has a kind and gentle nature, is very sweet with the boys and teaches them guinea pig manners. Despite being the heaviest pig in the rescue at over 1.5kg he plays with the babies and popcorns as much as they do.

1000th pig and the Piggy Bank

In response to the need for more help for piggies across the country than a single rescue or individual can provide I founded the Piggy Bank, a collective of volunteers for guinea pig rescue support, made up mostly of members of The Guinea Pig Forum. There is a central database of all contact details of the members so that when a rescue situation occurs, we have a response team in any area that can be called upon. For the larger scale rescues we work as a network to locate rescue space and transport the pigs to the rescues. The Piggy Bank is still in it's infancy but has helped with small and large cale rescues already, very successfully.

Piggy Bank

Since the first rescue pig, Mr Binkie, arrived on 6th July 2003 The Glynneath Guinea Pig Rescue has now welcomed it's 1000th piggy. He arrived on 18th February 2012, one of the '285 rescue' - Thanks to the Piggy Bank for their part in this rescue, finding rescue space and transport for 120 boars.

Pigs with Hats

You would think that, with all the junk she has laying around here, our Slave would have been able to find us hats for this competition. Other than the Christmas hat which has already been featured, she could only come up with a tiara, which is not really a hat but I hope that this will count.

I was not keen on wearing these but, after being bribed with some chicory, this is the best that I could do.

You'll have to excuse my wet chin. These poses needed a lot of chicory. Yummy.

Agent Firenze.

New Agents: Peggy, Daisy, Mabel & Betty!

Hello fellow-agents! We’re 4 little piggies in the UK who would like to introduce ourselves to all the other agents on this page!

I am agent Peggy. I am the boss here and get all the best food for myself – which I why I’m currently a curvy 1.3kg . I had a rubbish year last year and got cysts on my ovaries. They made me very grumpy so my human slaves sent me for an operation.  I was so cross about this that I didn’t eat for ages and lost all my lovely curves. My slaves gave me lots of sloppy food in a syringe for weeks and weeks. In the end, I got totally fed up of it and decided it was just going to be easier all round if I started eating on my own again. Here’s a picture of me trying to catch up on my sleep while the other idiots I share a cage with generally mess around and disturb my beauty sleep.

This is my sister, Agent Daisy. She’s not too bad I suppose. She’s less stupid that the other two but she does eat a lot which gets on my nerves.

This hairy little monster turned up last year, her name is Agent Mabel. As soon as she saw me, she thought I was her mum and followed me everywhere. Daisy didn’t help at all with babysitting even though I offered to give her extra cucumber. However, Agent Betty turned up a few months later and since then, Agent Mabel is generally preoccupied playing stupid baby games with her so I get a bit more peace.

Here is Agent Betty. I do try and be nice to her because her old owners didn’t want her anymore and I felt really sorry for her. The human slaves picked her up from her old owners one dark, snowy evening with a rabbit friend! Both of them were very cold because they had been outside and didn’t have a proper roof. Well, I wasn’t going to share my house with a rabbit so he carried on his journey to a nice rescue centre to find a new rabbit friend. Betty couldn’t join us for a while because she was very scared and had lice! Everyone thought she was a baby because she was very small but after a few weeks, she came to live with us and put on weight so quickly, she’s now nearly as heavy as Agent Daisy and she’s 1.5 years old! She really got on my nerves at first because as soon as I went to say ‘hi’, she’s run a mile and sit there shaking. The human slaves thought I was being nasty to her but I wasn’t! I think she was scared after living with that big, old rabbit! Anyway, we were very nice to her and shared all our stuff and now she always gets the best spots to sleep, which isn’t fair really and we were here first. Oh well...

I’ll sign off for now. Thanks for listening to our stories. Much love, Agent Peggy xxxx

Bath Time: the Archives

We from the Winky team are fortunate enough to have never had a bath. But we do have the archives with Jan the Boar, Suus, Yaya, Lotje and Guiny. These pigtures were made when they had a minor fungal infection and had to be treated with the Gorgeous Guineas products.

Before:
Pretty Suus

First, our brave pigs would get an oil treatment
I hate you
Little hedgehog
After wearing the oil for a few hours, the bathing would start
OMG
Noooo..
Peh.
Then our heroes faced the shampooing
Jan the Boar all lathered up
After that, they were rinsed with water again to get the shampoo out. Suus used her super jumping powers for revenge.
REVENGE!!!
Finally they were taken out and blown dry
Ghaaaaahh..
Lotje had a curly belly
Look at the pretty curls
We didn't find many 'after' pigtures, we guess our heroes were not up for smiling prettily into the camera after this ordeal.

If your slave is sniggering while watching these photo's we suggest peeing during lap time.

Fundraising Pig T-shirts

Hi there

I’ve just been looking at your blog – its brilliant!

I wondered if you might be interested in a new online shop I’ve opened selling all sorts of guinea pig t-shirts and clothing.

I noticed you have Glynneath Guinea pig Rescue in the blog hop – I’ve got a special range which I’ve designed especially for them to help raise money for the rescue.

I wasn’t sure if you were in America or the UK but I have a shop for both. The American one is here http://popcornprints.spreadshirt.com/ and the UK one is here http://www.popcornprints.co.uk/

I also have a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Popcorn-Prints/313915968619262

I would appreciate it so much if you would like to mention my t-shirts on your blog. I’ve attached a picture you could use.

Thanks so much, Louise xxx

Agent Christmas and her Mardi Gras Hat

Agent Christmas featured on the blog way back in 2010 but at that point she didn't have an agent name.

The clues to her real identity are;
She lives in New York
Her real name is how you feel at Christmas or how you wish others feel at Christmas.

Get guessing....

New Agent Ripple and her Hat

Agent Ripple gets her agent name because she looks like chocolate (so Mummy says) and her hair has a wave in it that reminds mummy of a chocolate bar called a Ripple, anyone remember them? can you still get them? has anyone outside of the UK heard of them?

She lives as part of a mixed herd in Illinois.

Her real name is the same as a character from the book and film The Mosquito Coast, it is also a nickname for girls with a variety of other names, in the UK although the spelling is different its pronounced the same and refers to a narrow walk way between 2 points hmmmm well thats enough confusing.

Get guessing

Carnival in the Netherlands

This weekend it's Carnival in the Netherlands! This means we'll be dressing up and go to Agent Zeppelin and Pepper to watch the parade with our other friends.

Agent Chanel dressed up as chicory, her favourite veggie.

Agent Venus, does this count as a hat?

New Agent Oreo and her Hat

Agent Oreo got her name because ..... well just look at the pigture.

She lives as part of a mixed herd in Illinois and her real name is the same as a famous actress from the 40's and 50's who starred in The Killers and Mogambo.

Agent Oreo sadly has ovarian cysts but she does not let this hold her back she loves to stand at side of cage for a petting.

Any ideas? We are not old enough to know these films wol.

Agent Valentino signing off

On valentine's day, exactly 3 years ago, Chico got to move in with his girlz.
at that time they were Dunya and Woopy, now they would be Woopy, Lily and Daisy.

Unfortunately Chico did not make it to this day :'(
Yesterday evening, only 30 minutes short of this small anniversary, he crossed the rainbow bridge...

As some of you know he was having diarrhea for the second time (ironically enough he had normal poops yesterday),
and inbetween he broke his front teeth. This probably caused a trama in which his jaws became misaligned.
This meant his front teeth didn't meet anymore, and as a result his lower incisors had grown very long already.

Last friday the vet corrected this, and then she noticed that his jaws were misaligned...
She said there was a possiblity that this would correct itself, but there was also a good chance that this wouldn't correct itself,
meaning monthly visits to the vet to have his teeth corrected...

He was a very strong boar, since the teeth correction friday, he kept going on, but loosing more and more weight,
as he couldn't really eat himself. We did of course feed him critical care and small strips of vegetable.
When I came home yesterday he was not looking good, but we spent about another 2 hours sitting with him.
I gave him some extra painkiller in case he was in pain, and we just tried to keep him comfortable.
He kept standing up, and would still stand on his paws for a very long time!
I took all my girlz (one by one) to see him for the last time, the girlz were not very happy with this.
There is something about cavies and knowing when time is up, and they just tend to keep away from them.
However when I took Lily to him (they were always very fond of each other) he lifted his head and tried to snuggle up to her!
After that he went downhill fast...

He was my first cavy that did not do the running in the end, though he was stamping his feet a lot,
which felt a lot like he was trying to stand up and walk away...

Sadly, Mieke, Erwin
and the guinygirlz Woopy, Lily and Daisy
