Calendar piggies : December 2013

Sorry, this is really late, but in most parts of the world it is still 2013
So here are our December calendar piggies!

December calendar pigture

Addison the is white and brown one aka Agent Sassoon.  She and Amaris, the all brownish color aka Agent Moon flower, came to be misfits on Sept 1, 2012.
We drove two hours to pick them up. We thought we were just getting one pig (Addison) but Andy just couldn't let Amaris stay there. They belonged to a lady that didn't want them anymore. She tried to start breeding pigs and found no one wanted to buy them from her. So she was getting rid of her pigs. We offered to give one a home. And since she had long hairs I was totally excited to get one. (ended up being two) The girls were very tiny as they were only a couple of months old.

Both girls loved to trim each others hair when they first got here.  They would make new hairstyles on each other:) its really cute. They do not do that anymore so maybe it was because they were so young?  They really love all  food that is placed in front of them.

Addison is the boss piggy. Amaris is really laid back and a great pig to take out for when small vistors come to visit that want to hold a pig. Amaris has a crush on our pig named Riley. Those two will sit and talk to each other for hours. It's the cutest thing to watch. Riley's cage is right next to the girls cage.  We love our little longs hairs and are very glad we were able to take them in.

A big Merry Christmas to everyone and every-pig and any other critters you may have. And a Happy New Year too!

Jean and all the Misfits

Calendar Piggies November: Jaina, Fergie & Wendy

These are our November Calendar piggies
Wendy

Fergie

Jaina

---
Hello from Agents Schilling & Peanut!

Hello, I am Agent Schilling but my slaves call me Fergie, and Agent Peanut is my buddy, but slaves call her Jaina (pronounced jay-nuh). Whee are sad to say that Agent Kelly (aka Wendy) must say hello from across the Rainbow Bridge. She passed away in August 2013 and whee miss her greatly! Agent Peanut can give some more details below.

As for me, I am 2.5 years old and was adopted about 18 months ago from North Star Rescue in Napa, California, USA. Let's see what do you need to know about me... My slaves always laugh and tell me what a bad "hunter" I am. When they put food in the cage or on the ground during floor time, I seem to never be able to find it! Even when they set it right in front of me - I just end up standing on it and wheeking very loudly in protest that I haven't been fed yet. It makes the slaves laugh but I don't see what's so funny! When I finally do find the food they "hid" from me, I burwaggle and loudly complain about the poor service.

My favorite activities are cuddling, sleeping, eating, cuddling and eating. In fact if the slaves don't read scriptures with me and tuck me in at night, I get very cranky and I take it out on everyone - my poor sister Jaina (I might make a habit out of dominating her...) and the slaves (with loud rumblings and stomping around the cage making a terrible racket). I love watching TV with my daddy, and helping him work. My dad is definitely my favorite - he has facial hair I can nibble on if I get hungry, and he knows just the right way to scratch behind my ears. He also doesn't make fun of my excess chubs the way mom does, she's so mean!

Hello, this is Agent Peanut, but as Agent Schilling said I go by Jaina in my day-to-day life when I'm not out saving the world as an Undercover Agent. My primary powers are being adorable, and being scared. My nick-name here at home is Scaredy-pig and it's quite suitable, I am sad to say! I was adopted from Cavy House guinea pig rescue in La Honda, California, USA!

As you know by now, my best buddy in the whole world, Agent Kelly, passed away a few months ago. Whee were planning a big fancy party for our 6th birthday which was the first weekend in September, but Wendy got very sick and after being rushed to the vet, there was nothing the slaves or the vet could do for her. Mom says she got bloat - something very scary that neither us nor our slaves ever want to encounter again! Mommy and daddy cried for days, and I did my best to comfort them. Slaves were worried that I would be so sad - you see, Wendy and I were adopted together and have been friends since we were about 2 months old. We were very bonded, and I got sad if I was separated from my dear Wendy for more than 30 minutes! But slaves were very surprised to find that I was OK after only a few hours, whereas Agent Schilling had a hard time - she kept sniffing around the cage trying to find Wendy. After a few days, she felt better and we are now on the market to find a new friend. With Agent Schilling's "strong personality" (she's a bit of a brute!) it has taken us some time to find someone we can get along with, but we have several play dates in the next few weeks to find someone! Hopefully Agent Schilling will be nicer to them than she is to me...as evidenced by this picture:

As for me, my favorite activity is eating food - especially the fresh peppers dad grows for me in the garden. YUM! I also love to sleep in very odd positions which makes the slaves laugh. I'm not big on snuggles but sometimes I give in and let the slaves hold me for a few minutes, but when it gets too scary I ask to be put back in my comfy cave.

So we'll leave you now with a picture of Agent Kelly participating in her favorite past time - hiding out in a brown paper bag full of scrumptious hay!

Agent lil'Woop is 5 1/2 years old today!! Calendar piggies October

This months Calendar piggies are my Guinygirlz:
Agents lily'Explorer, Tortoise, Wheeker and lil'Woop

AKA Lily, Roos, Daisy and Woopy

Today is also a special day because our girl Woopy turned 5,5 years old today. This also means she is the oldest piggy I ever owned! She seems pretty healthy and active for her age, so we hope for many more years with her. So a small party for as today, please join us in congratulating Woopy on her half birthday, Carrot beers all around!!

Woopy after a bath...

Because I think you already know my piggies a bit I wanted to show you their house.

Recently we got a bunkbed, we got this idea from the Cali Cavy Collective:
Here is a tutorial on how to make one.

Lily on top, Woopy below, Daisy on the right
Our new drink bottle in empty cage, see the floating carrot?
Daisy snuggling in the hay (food) next to overturned hay rack and new waterbottle

We also love boxes, this is a beer house.. with Daisy peeking out
Recently we got a doll bed, great to eat hay off the side...
... snuggle below it ...
Or sit in it of course! Roos is modeling a birthday hat for Woopy,
as she doesn't like hats, and Roos doesn't mind

September Calendar piggies: Mr Kiss Kiss, Weasel, Mirabella, Amelia biscuit & Maisey

Hello all, its Mr Kiss Kiss pigcipant of the September calendar pigture.

Sorry the post is late, whee have just come back off holiday from our local rodentologist.

I'm the boss of my herd and its a hard job looking after the girls. Whee are all rescue pigs from Windwhistle Warren in Gloucestershire where we used to live. We don't know how old we are but that doesn't bother us.

Its been a difficult year with the passing of the Weasel and Mirabella but we do our best. I'm now a dental pig, requiring regular work with rodentologists trained by the Cambridge Cavy Trust. I wouldn't be here without them, but still wriggle when I go to see them. I'm doing better now and starting to eat on my own again. Amelia Biscuit is still the behemoth of the group, stealing all the food and best places to sleep. Maisey is the more serious pig, and the biggest lover of grass.

We are sad now that Summer's over and there will be no more grass until next year. The picture shows us celebrating the bringing of the cattle in from the Summer mountains for the winter, celebrated in alpine countries.

Piggie kisses to all,

Mr Kiss Kiss, Amelia Biscuit and Maisey.
---

In about 3 months it will be the end of the year again. We could do a Calendar again for 2014.
So far we usually gathered about 150 euros to donate to a piggy shelter...

What do you think: Should we make another calendar? Would you contribute your pigture? Would your slave buy one?

Thanks,
Mieke of the undercover guinea pig blog

August Calendar Piggies: Mo and Larry

Hi all,

Unfortunately I have no more information about Mo and Larry, aka Agents Pellets and Shyness who are this months Calendar piggies.
Maybe they are to shy to share?
But I wanted to at least share their calendar pigture, and maybe their owner can add some more info about them to this post...

Calendar Piggies: July 2013

Our Oz Granny Glynis tells us about her lovely girls! Unfortunately Velvet left us earlier this year ;'(

Well Velvet RIP was a beautiful gentle sweet natured baby girl. She adored her food and when little she and Onyx would roar around their house and look for treats that i'd hidden. When she lost her sight she'd still manage to zoom around but not quite as much, but she sure knew where all the food bowls were!!
Velvet loved nothing more than a chinny rub first thing in the morning when i'd greet them both with " goooooooooood morning good morning my beautiful babies" and she'd often be sitting out in the open (totally unawares of course being blind) and i'd tap the ground near her and speak softly and say 'chinny chinny' and she'd raise her head and let me scritch that beautiful chinnie of hers. Being a long haired girlie she had to be groomed, this was not a favourite thing, but if some lettuce was on offering when having to go thru the humility of yet another butt bath and nail trim she'd be happy as a little piggie :-)
Her quiff was an amazing lilac/grey with under skirt being tan. She had black nails. Her eyes used to be deep pools of black, but then sadly became blue opaque. Her blindness never hindered her, i kept up the routine of morning feeds in the house, but would remove Onyx cause if Velvet missed some food (as it might be hidden under her volumous quiff LOL) cheeky Onyx would zoom over and nick it!!
When she was ill with her cancer Onyx did take care of her, but once she started to improve after her big op she would shoo Onyx away. When her time was coming, the last few days, Onyx was allowed to groom her and sit very very close, just like they used to when small piggies. I think she found this very comforting knowing her sister was looking after her.
Velvet Duchess was one of a kind, a diabetic and blind little girl who never complained and was so good about taking her medications.

now Onyx

Onyx was always the one first to the bowl and the first to run away! It took me way longer for her to calm down and allow me to do chinnie chinnies with her LOL As you all know Onyx has black nails except for ONE her 'tan glove' She is silky black with undertones of tan. She was always the slimmer of them both. So when she got ill and i nearly lost her it was really hard to get her back up to a reasonable weight again.
Onyx adored to reach up and try to pinch the parsley and the cucumber from the hanging treat bar. She could and still can to this day do 'standing piggie' :-) she loves to get up on her hind haunches and reach up for a treat. She is also very clever and can do 'up up' when i put my hand in and she will come and reach up and stand on my hand so i can get her out and put her into her house for dinner.
She too doesn't like butt washes or nail trims. Luckily she doesn't need too many cause of having short hair, tho she does have a cute little 'tail' when it's winter as she gets whisps that grow long on her bottom and on her ears.
Onyx is also blind in one eye cause of cataracts, her diet had to change also when Velvet got the diabetes. I used to sneak her bits of corn but then Velvet would come up and sniff her mouth, which didn't impress Onyx. Tho if Velvet was eating Onyx would go right up and sniff her mouth and try to pinch her food.
When Velvet went to the bridge, Onyx was bereft...... i was very very worried and she lost a lot of weight. I had already had a little stuffed sock toy in with the girls and thought this might help but no way she didn't want it in there anymore. It took about a month before she would move around the whole house again...... even months later one day i saw her run up the ramp and brrrrrrrr like she used to cause Velvet would be sleeping upstairs...... then Onyx realised she wasn't there so she just came back down stairs, so i hurriedly gave her a little snack to brighten her up again.

I'm blessed to have these two little girls in my life.

Calendar Piggies: June 2013

Just before the month ends, the calendar piggies from June would like to say hello.

Bo, Sjeuf and Coco

(Coco) welcome to our crib! We are the Winky Team, and this is where I welcome our guests and place our orders for our waitress.

Three carrots to go please!
Our cage was bought a few years ago, and it's 140cm x 70cm (55 inches x 27 inches). We've actually bought this online since our staff cannot be bothered to make one for us (humpf). But as you can see, it is quite big and rather sturdy. When we moved from Haarlem to Amsterdam, the movers actually named it the Jacuzzi, and our slave (who is tall and squishy) can easily fit into it. Not that we like it when she does. But never mind. To your left, miss Bo Peep is taking a nap. We do most of our home decorating ourselves. We're actually kinda proud of the nest that we've built.
Bo
Sjeuf is also sleeping in our 2 door bedroom. It was built by grandma's boyfriend and has been a favorite ever since. I'll wake Sjeuf so that he can show you around the kitchen.
Sleepy Sjeuf
(Sjeuf) welcome viewers of Undercover GP. I know everybody says this, but the kitchen is where the magic happens!! Today we're having a salad of herbs. Very nommy if I may say so. Our staff grows this stuff fresh on the balcony. Yes, we are living the good life here in Amsterdam ;-)

Sjeuf having lunch
We always have a stash of pellets ready for a midnight snack (or midday.. or morning..). Today, we've made the cage extra fancy and placed 2 extra pellet bowls in the cage; one for each guinea. Although the setup of our cage varies weekly, you can see that we also have some bricks in the cage for wearing down our nails. We actually prefer this bit of high tech furniture to our pedicure lady, but you didn't hear that from me *wink wink*.

Our cage
You can also see our play pen in the distance. We play on a nice green blanket, surrounded by a big pet run. Well.. we hope you've enjoyed the Winky Team mansion. Thank you for stopping by, but we have very important business to take care off. So off with ye. Bye!!!

Nomnomnom.. very important.. nomnom

Calendar piggy: May 2013

This months Calendar piggy is the lovely Clover. Here you can see her spring pigture that is in this month of the Undercover Guinea Pigs Calendar 2013. Clover tells her story below...

----

Hello everyone,
my name is Clover, aka. Agent Dahlia. My real name comes from the fact that I was born on St. Patrick's Day. My secret agent name comes from the fact that I like to pose for pigtures by flowers, as you can tell from my calendar pigture; especially dahlias. I am a 2 year old Sheltie and I live with my mom Flower, and my Abyssinian friends, a mother and daughter, Nutmeg and Cinnamon. You can see a pigture of my mom and I here.

I have a not-so-secret admirer next door, Barney, who always looks at me longingly. He tries to chew through the bars of his cage so we can be together, but it hasn't worked so far. I am very special pig to my human, because my dad died unexpectedly 2 weeks before I was born, and my brother died when he was only 1 year old. To my human's surprise, I look almost identical to my dad! My favorite things to eat are parsley and cucumber and I really enjoy grazing outside and running up the stairs. I turned 2 years old in March and had a party for my birthday with my favorite foods. Here is a pigture of me in my party hat.

Thanks for reading about me!

Sincerely,
Clover aka. Agent Dahlia

Calendar piggy: April 2013

This months calendar piggy is Agent Magician also known as Poof. She will be sharing her story with us. She frequently features on one of our favorite blogs: the CaliCaviCollective (see link below)
She has a lovely Bond girl pigture in the Calendar.
-----

Agent Magician aka Poof, reporting in:

A big wheeking hello to everyone and everypig!

My story begins when as a baby cavy, I was abandoned in a cardboard box on the side of a freeway. A kindly human found me before it was too late and brought me to a local rescue. Although I was thankful to have food and a cage to stay in, I was very shy and nervous around people. I lived there for several months before my humans stopped by for a rescue event.
Poof at the Rescue
Slave was working her way down the row of cages, saying hello to and feeding all the other rescue pigs before she came to my cage - the very last one in the row. Even though she wasn't looking to adopt, she couldn't leave me there after holding me and hearing my story. I went with her to my forever home that very same day.

After a mildly bumpy introduction process I settled down with Agents Acorn, Godiva, and Mango (Belka, Truffle, and Peaches). To my humans' amusement, I rule over my cagemates with an iron paw - no one is welcome to share MY pigloo when I am occupying it - but am very sweet towards my slaves during cuddle time.

Poof with Peaches, Truffle and Belka
Things that make me a happy peeg include eating herbs, grazing grass, and napping on soft cozies. Things that make me an unhappy peeg include bubble baths, having my authority challenged by my new neighbor Abby-Roo, and visiting the vet. I am currently in a relationship with a handsome boar named Winks who lives in the UK.

In addition to my regular job as full time pig, I moonlight as a piggy model/food critic on the Cali Cavy Collective guinea pig blog (along with the rest of my herd). Since my responsibilities consist of eating food, providing an opinion on said food, and looking cute, I can't complain!

Best wishes and much food to all,
Agent Magician

Our donation to Palace Piggie Rescue!

Dear readers, especially the ones who send in pigtures of their agents, and who bought the Undercover Guinea Pigs Calendar 2013,

We worked out the donation for our winning rescue Palace Piggie Rescue, near Crawley in England (UK). By selling 23 Calendars and a extra donation (he knows who we mean) we could donate 148,20 euros to the rescue.
A big thank you to everyone who supplied us with pigtures and/or bought a calendar, together we could donate this amount!

If you live near Crawley, West Sussex in England, please consider to adopt a piggie from them. Their website is: http://www.palacepiggierescue.org/

You can see their piggies for re-homing here
Also have a look at the gorgeous hutches and sheds,  that Lynn's husband made.

Here is the mail we got from the rescue ladies Liz and Lynn:
"Thank you so much for this, we have received it, this will be used for some bedding we have just had delivered...and have to pay for soon!! It will also help with the vet fund, we had to have an emergency spaying of one of our sows last week as her insides were coming outside!!! Fortunately, she is doing very well, but at a very large cost!

Thank you again for organising this and for donating the money to us, we are truly grateful.
Kindest regards
Liz and Lynn"

Since many of Penny's Piggyfriends came from Palace Piggie Rescue, we've asked Penny for some pigtures. Thank you Penny for the pigtures!

Calendar Piggy: March 2013

This month's Calendar piggy is one of Penny's boys named Gandalf, aka Agent Wizard...

Agent Wizard's Calendar pigture
Hi everyone.

This is me, Agent Wizard, aka Gandalf Piggyfriend. I came to live here in February 2011 along with my best friend, Fuzzypeg, who was in the Calendar last year in November. He is Agent Curly.
Fuzzypeg and Gandalf looking handsome

Slave had gone to the pet shop to buy hay and, when she was waiting to pay, she saw a note pinned to the counter saying " Guinea pigs free to good home" along with a pigture of us both. She rushed home and called the number on the note and it was not long before our previous owner delivered us here to Piggyfriends. She had bought us as pets for her children but then decided that guinea pigs were not right for them as they wanted something more cuddly - maybe a kitten. Our coats were very matted and our nails long and curly as she did not know how to care for us so, once we had settled in and had a good meal, Slave whisked us off to the bath. I was surprised how much smaller Fuzzypeg appeared after our spa treatment and Slave was left with a pile of curly coat nearly as big as me. This went out to the garden for birds to use for nesting material.

Sheltie Gandalf
I am a Sheltie ( called Silkie in some countries ) and Fuzzypeg is an Alpaca so we needed more hair care than short coated piggies.

We live here in a large pen surrounded by many other piggies. Our favourite food is grass, which Slave cuts for us every day, except when it is snowing. Second favourite has to be cucumber and we enjoy the forage that Slave collects during the good weather.
enjoying grass...
We had different names when we arrived. I was called Silky, which Slave said was a breed not a name so she thought of names related to grey things. It was Mieke who suggested Gandalf for me as Slave has other pets with names of the Lord of the Rings characters. This is her favourite ever book. Fuzzypeg was called Ginger Ninja but there has been a Ginger Piggyfriend before so she called him Fuzzypeg, after a favourite children's book character (who is really a hedgehog but never mind).

Agent Curly
I was so pleased to be chosen as the Easter Pig in this year's calendar.
